Nature preserves, wetlands with fields of sawgrass, and wildlife reservations make up much of the natural splendor of Homosassa.

The Florida Manatee have made Homosassa and Homosassa Springs famous, but it is the rich history and colorful residents that have made it infamous.

During the Civil War, the Yulee family owned and operated a sugar cane plantation and processing mill which supplied sugar and molasses to the Confederate troops.

The ruins of this old mill can still be seen today in old Homosassa.

Homosassa residents share a love of seafood and there is no better place to find it than the many waterfront restaurants, bar & grills and seafood stands where it seems there are always shrimp for sale. The annual Homosassa Seafood Festival is over 30 years old and people come from around the world to sample the fare.
