Citrus County, FL — April is recognized nationwide as Fair Housing Month, a time to honor and reflect on the principles of equal opportunity in housing and the continued work of REALTORS® to ensure that everyone has access to a fair and open housing market.

The REALTORS® Association of Citrus County (RACC) is proud to join communities across the nation in recognizing the 56th anniversary of the Fair Housing Act, signed into law in April 1968. This landmark legislation prohibits discrimination in housing based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, and familial status—ensuring the right of every American to seek and secure housing without fear of bias or exclusion.

This year, we extend our heartfelt thanks to the Citrus County Board of County Commissioners, who officially proclaimed April 2025 as Fair Housing Month in Citrus County. Several members and leaders of our Association were honored to be present and receive this proclamation at a recent Commission Meeting, a moment that underscores our shared commitment to fairness, equity, and opportunity in housing.

"Fair Housing is not just a law—it’s a promise we make to every buyer, seller, renter, and neighbor in our community," said Lynn Harris, 2025 President of the REALTORS® Association of Citrus County. "As REALTORS®, we are proud to uphold the Fair Housing Act every day in our business practices. It’s about dignity, respect, and opening doors—literally and figuratively—for all people."

While April shines a spotlight on Fair Housing, our work doesn't begin and end in one month. The fight for fair and equitable housing is ongoing—something that must be lived out and led every single day. REALTORS® are at the forefront of this effort year-round, advocating for policies that support access, providing continued education and awareness, and holding themselves to the highest standards of professionalism and fairness.

The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) and local associations like RACC are committed to leading efforts in education, advocacy, and accountability to foster inclusive communities. Through ongoing Fair Housing training, policy support, and community outreach, REALTORS® across the country work to combat discrimination and support equitable housing opportunities for all.

RACC Association Executive Marsha Coleman added, "We’re incredibly proud of our members who go above and beyond to champion equal opportunity in housing. Fair Housing Month is not only a time to commemorate a pivotal moment in civil rights history, but also a time to recommit ourselves to the work that still needs to be done—because progress must continue every day."

As we celebrate Fair Housing Month, we encourage all Citrus County residents to reflect on the value of inclusive communities and join us in affirming that Fair Housing is Everyone’s Right. Together, we can continue to build a future where everyone has a place to call home!
